FACULTY
DEVELOPMENT CER
The
Faculty Development CER directs and ensures faculty and intern
development, performance, and evaluation in all Children's Studio
School programs; organizes professional development program for
teacher-fellows and other participants; ensures the implementation
of curricular guidelines and arts educational goals; prepares
and/or edits curricular documentation, descriptions and articles
for varied audiences; writes proposals and where applicable,
conducts other fundraising efforts.
Successful
applicants should have significant background in one or more art
forms and in the field of education, and experience in
coordination, direction, facilitation, management and evaluation;
must love inquiry, discourse, chronicling; should be organized,
mature, macromicro thinker, flexible and imperturbable; must have
excellent scholarly and persuasive writing abilities; must be able
to convey school's philosophy and mission to public and preferably
have an intuitive understanding of Children's Studio School's
approach to developing polychromatic thinking in children as well
as inventive grants-writing experience. Prefer individual with
roots in cultures that reflect DC's African-American, Asian, and
Latino communities.

ARTIST/TEACHERS (Architects, Visual and Performing Artists,
Writers):
Artist/teachers guide young children in active
investigation, creation, experimentation, and analysis.
Artists/teachers develop curricula within the arts and
architecture as an in-depth and all encompassing means of
education. Position
requires meticulous organization and documentation of children's
studio work; communication with parents; conducting professional
development workshops for other artists and teachers; and
participating in collaborations with families and other cultural
organizations.
Artists/teachers of diverse cultures and disciplines are
encouraged to apply. The
qualified artist/teacher must: love inquiry and chronicling; be
organized, mature and inventive; have an intuitive understanding
of Children's Studio School's approach to education; and be able
to create a rich and comprehensive alternative curriculum in the
arts to ensure students' achievement.
Graduate degree, extensive experience working in an
artistic discipline, university teaching experience, and excellent
writing skills preferred. For
visual artists, capabilities in exhibit preparation, installation,
bookmaking, design and/or film and video
is also preferred. Must
be flexible and imperturbable.

INTERNSHIPS FOR EMERGING ARTISTS AND ARTS ADMINISTRATORS
Artist/Teacher interns actively assist artists and children
in the studios by working directly with the children and
documenting their working processes, participating in meetings and
workshops, and self-evaluation.
Interns work closely with faculty to develop their own
teaching capabilities. They
are expected to help artists challenge the children to actively investigate, imagine, design,
create, contemplate and analyze their ideas and productions.
Strong background in the arts, and capabilities in writing,
photography, graphic art and/or film and video preferred.
Designer/Graphic
Artist interns prepare and install exhibits and graphic
presentations; visually document and catalogue work, working
process and archives; other areas of interest.
Arts Administration interns initiate and partake in resource
development, community engagement, communications/public
relations, documentation; other support. Experience
in fundraising, marketing, communications and demonstrated
interest and willingness to work in various aspects of arts
administration preferred.
Strong communication skills and interest in developing an
in-depth understanding of the underlying concepts of Children’s
Studio School are desirable in all candidates.
Interns will develop skills that are transferable to many
environments.
